Ascend | Folding Vertical Stair Stepper with Display for Low Impact Glute and Leg Training

£99.99

Vertical climbing drives the legs and glutes through a full range under load while asking far less of the knees than running does. The Ascend brings that movement indoors on a steel frame with a footprint of 44 by 83 centimetres, which is less floor space than an armchair.

The display tracks five things rather than one: time, count, total count, calories and reps per minute. Reps per minute is the useful one, because it shows your cadence as it happens and lets you hold a pace instead of guessing at it. A single mode button cycles between readings, or scan runs through them in turn.

The pedals are textured across their whole surface and ribbed down the centre, so the foot stays put through a long climb rather than creeping forward. Red knobs at each pivot open by hand, with no tools, and the frame folds down to a flat profile. At 11.5 kilograms it can be moved and stood away by one person.
